Arusha to Tarangire — giants of the savanna
We collect you early at your agreed Arusha pickup point and travel south through Maasai country towards Tarangire National Park. Allow about 2.5–3 hours on the road before entry formalities, then swap the pace of the highway for slow wildlife watching among enormous baobabs. Your guide follows accessible tracks towards the Tarangire River, checking woodland and open ground for elephants, giraffes and grazing herds. A colourful roller or a smaller animal beside the track can be just as memorable as a distant predator. Pause for your agreed picnic lunch at a designated site, then continue the game drive as time allows. We leave with enough daylight and driving time in hand for the return to your Arusha hotel that evening.
Tarangire is known for its baobab-studded scenery and elephant country, with the river becoming especially important when surrounding areas dry out. During the drier months, usually June–October, wildlife often gathers near remaining water, though daily sightings vary. Greener periods bring fresh vegetation and rewarding birdwatching, with animals sometimes more dispersed. For this full day trip from Arusha, bring binoculars and a sunhat, and keep a light layer handy for the early drive; dust protection is useful for cameras on the park tracks.
