Ruaha is Tanzania's second-largest park (20,200 km²) and arguably its most beautiful. The Great Ruaha River cuts a green seam through a dry, rolling landscape studded with baobabs the size of houses. It sits at the meeting point of southern and east African ecosystems — so you get species you can't see in the north.

Discover Ruaha National Park
Ruaha holds an estimated 10% of Africa's remaining lion population — including some of the largest prides on the continent (20+ individuals is normal). It's also one of the few places where greater and lesser kudu, sable, and roan antelope can be seen on the same drive.
Crucially: vehicle traffic is a fraction of the north. A typical sighting here is one Land Cruiser. Most stays are 3 nights from a fly-in camp — anything less and you're spending half your trip in transit.
Wildlife in Ruaha National Park
- Huge lion prides (10% of Africa's lions)
- Leopard, cheetah, and African wild dog
- Greater and lesser kudu, sable, roan antelope
- Largest elephant population in East Africa (~12,000)

Every drive is different — sightings are never guaranteed, and your guide reads the bush as you go.
